Peek into a Socialite's Closet - Nan Kemper: American Chic
First Vivienne Westwood and now Nan Kemper! The recently remodeled de Young Museum continues to elevate fashion into the realm of fine art with its back-to-back fashion exhibits. Kemper was raised in San Francisco and later became a prominent New York socialite, who amassed arguably one of the most amazing personal collections of couture in America. From Valentino to Dior to Lacroix, this fashion icon’s wardrobe spans over 55 years. To be able to see it, in person, is a rare, not-to-be-missed experience. Kemper is in the Best-Dressed List’s Hall of Fame, and her cool, elegant style sets her apart from the myriad of other well-dressed ladies-who-lunch. There will be over 60 outfits, 25 of which were specifically chosen for the San Francisco exhibition.
The collection goes on display this Saturday the 16th. If you want to hear about the exhibition from an expert, go to the lecture, "Dress Codes" by curator Harold Koda. As the curator in charge of The Costume Institute, a department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, he is a bona-fide fashion authority.
