As we have seen throughout the past, trends in fashion, language, health regimes and politics have become just as normal as time itself. There is a common saying that “history repeats itself” and in this day in age, the things that are repeating themselves are trends. Bellbottoms and high rise pants are in and low rise pants are definitely out. The south beach and no carb diet are undeniably fading while the ancient Indian practices of yoga are in full force in the western world.

Trends are just stages society goes through to remind ourselves of the past and to forewarn what will happen in the future. Lately the trend that is quickly gaining momentum is the new and improved technology of the cell phone. First, you had your Blackberry where you can go on the internet, have your address book with the hundreds of contacts you obviously need and even a camera at the click of a button.

However, nothing compares to the new iphone that is hitting the markets and creating a frenzy amongst high class business men and computer nerds. Apple is claiming it is a revolutionary phone and the San Francisco Chronicle stated it will change the lives of many! But really now, a phone is just a phone as shoes are just shoes. Personally, I am nervous about this fast moving technology because sooner or later, family dinners will consist of a delivered pizza and little Suzie and little Bobby will be writing blogs or listening to music on their iphones while Mom and Dad are writing emails. Do we really need to be spending so much time indulging in technology just to follow a certain trend? Well, whether or not people decide to follow through or not… just remember that this trend will fade and who knows, maybe someone will bring back the Lip phone!! Now there’s a phone worth having!
