Amélie of Nob Hill

Everybody loves Amélie. When I hear the name what immediately comes to mind is the favorite film featuring the sweet and fantastically quirky Amélie of Monmartre. Audrey Tautou plays the gamine French girl with a heart for helping people stuck in emotional gridlock. San Francisco now has its own Amélie, a saucy new wine bar on Polk Street in Nob Hill, with its own version of vino therapy.

Give Party Animal a Whole New Meaning - All Day Long

As promised, this week’s posts were devoted to the fabulous pets that help make your apartment a home. Instead of taking the dog in your life for a walk this week – take him out for a day and night on the town! New York City is full of pet friendly places so you can bring your dog along with you anywhere from the spa to the bar. Here are just a few:

Looking for a relaxing workout after a long day behind the desk? Visit East Yoga on 212 Avenue B at 13th St for yoga like you’ve never experienced. Their Doga classes ($20 each) are designed around you and your dog to give you both a workout. Utilizing modified yoga moves, it’s designed to help you bond with Spot while helping to calm him and aid circulation and digestion processes!

The Dashing Diva at 41 E. 8th Street is known for its great pedis, manis and other spa treatments from extensions to facials. Did you know that you can also bring your dog there? It might be easier than trying to get your boyfriend to come along to keep you company and join you in a spa treatment.

D.B.A. located at 41 First Avenue, boasts being the best whiskey, bourbon, tequila and beer bar in New York. If their mile long liquor and beer lists aren’t enough to keep you coming back, they are pet friendly and welcome your dogs! Pet-friendly night life gives “party animal” a whole new meaning.

Savannah: A Genteel City Who Knows A Good Time!

If you are looking for a vacation spot with a city vibe and Southern Hospitality, then head to Savannah, Georgia.
Just three hours southeast from Atlanta, Savannah is one of America’s oldest cities but with some of the best party spots.
Blasted into the public eye by the book and film, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Savannah has become more popular in recent years but with good cause.
Charming, historic homes double as bed and breakfasts and many of them are surrounded by sweeping trees with Spanish Moss. Savannah’s famous squares are easy to walk to and fun to explore.
There’s an abundance of hotels, but I usually stay at the Hyatt Regency. It’s stylish, the rooms are huge, and the staff make you feel right at home. The best part, though, is that the Hyatt has it’s own entrance to River Street, the main hub in Savannah.
No matter what day it is or what the weather’s like, River Street is always bustling. Jazz musicians playing along the Savannah River can be heard as you walk the cobblestone streets. Be careful if you’re wearing heels!
Countless bars with giant Margaritas, shops with cheesy souvenirs, and an eclectic mix of restaurants line River Street. Many have rooftop seating where you can catch a gorgeous sunset or watch ocean liners with barges coast down the river.
If you have a significant other, Savannah is the perfect romantic getaway. There’s plenty of cozy, dim-lit restaurants on and off River Street. After dinner, go on a horse drawn carriage ride throughout the city or head to a trendy, cosmopolitan wine bar.
No boyfriend? No problem! Savannah is crawling with singles who tend to hang out at Wet Willies or wherever it’s Happy Hour. Actually, most places in Savannah do Happy Hour, so you’re in luck!
Go to Savannah! Remember that the most important thing is that in this enchanting city, no matter what you do, you’ll have an amazing time.

Tosca Café

Injecting a bit of vintage glamour into San Francisco, Tosca Café in North Beach is where old school style is new again. Serving classic cocktails for over half a century, the dimly lit room with red booths flanking the perimeter looks smack out of a 1940s black and white noir film. The jukebox, with its selection of jazz standards and rat pack tunes, adds to the atmosphere—but no one’s there to really listen to the music anyway. Ideal for low-key romantic dates and sealing business deals, the crowd is a mix of neighborhood regulars as well as groups of intellectual social conversationalists, fueling their debates with espresso shots pulled from one of the oldest machines in the city. Reaching an epoch that personifies San Francisco, Tosca will never die, and being a little worse for wear only makes the place more charming. Celebrities take refuge at Tosca, sometimes calling ahead to have the owner open the bar after hours for private gatherings. The bartenders make all your favorite drinks, including martinis. Whether you like your martinis dirty or dry, they’re the perfect tiny size for enjoying multiples. But remember, to paraphrase Dorothy Parker: Have one martini, two at the most, three you’re under the table, four and you’ll be toast.—Michelle Zaffino
