Tea at Tiffany's amidst Castles, Seabirds and Beaches
You might think, from the name, that Tea at Tiffany’s is nestled in the chic neighbourhood of Soho New York City. It may conjure images of Audrey Hepburn and Manhattan, but this new tearoom is on the main street in North Berwick, Scotland. It is full of Scottish character, starting with the extensive selection of teas. The café is nicely laid out in a Victorian townhouse with ample space between the round tables. It was almost full when we visited, which says something for its popularity; it was mid-afternoon on a Thursday.
This café is full of little quirks that add charm - a typewriter in the window, deep red walls and vintage china – which any devoted tea-drinker will tell you makes all the difference. I was even given a pink and green cup and saucer to match my jumper! The cakes are homemade – I tried a rich chocolate fudge cake and my friend had pancakes, both were accompanied with homemade vanilla ice cream. They were equal parts sin and pleasure!
Some sights in North Berwick are the nearby Tantallon Castle, the gorgeous expansive beaches and Bass Rock. Jutting from the sea, Bass Rock was once a prison and is now a wildlife reserve and home to thousands of seabirds, especially gannets.

Cuba in San Francisco by Yezenia Herrera
In this dynamic city of San Francisco, there are hundreds of remarkable restaurants, cafes, and bars to choose from. However, for those who live here, finding these places could be at times strenuous and time consuming. Yet, for visitors and foreigners, the search could be down right impossible. Well, this is where I come along.
As a resident of San Francisco for more than three years now, and an addict of caffeine, I have gone to the worst coffee bar known to man as well as the most prestigious café San Francisco has to offer. But over the months, I have found a café that because of its soothing atmosphere and delicious coffee, continually makes me return.
Café Lo Cubano is located in the heart of Laurel Heights and sits on the top of the hill awaiting avid coffee drinkers, bookworms, or computer junkies. But this café is unlike all others for the ambiance mimics the feel of Pre- Castro Cuba. Their menu includes a variety of hot pressed Cuban sandwiches and bold Cuban coffee, including my favorite, Cortadito (a sweetened espresso splashed with milk and topped with foam) that I highly recommend. Impressively enough, they sell Free Trade Coffee as well!
The sweet song of Cuban music, beautiful antiques, and unique art are displayed amidst baristas in black. Live music is also played a few nights a week turning this cute coffee shop into an authentic, stunning wine bar. I advise everyone, San Franciscans and visitors alike, to sit for a cup of coffee in the morning or stay for a glass of wine at night, knowing Cuba can be found and enjoyed in the heart of San Francisco.

Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe
Since childhood I have always thought that Swiss Miss instant cocoa was the height of sophistication in the realm of hot chocolate. The powdery clumps bubbling on top, fishing out the marshmallows that never seemed to come in a sip. But now that I’m a little older I was curious to find this “gourmet hot chocolate” jazz everyone was talking about. I came across Moonstruck chocolate café after my Michigan Ave. shopping spree and I instantly knew that my daily sugar allowance may as well be thrown off the bridge right then and there. Moonstruck’s selection came as a sweet surprise with their amazing menu offering 9 different kinds of hot chocolate. Nine! From their double-dark to their Mexican vanilla spice blend, their cocoa selection blew every Swiss Miss mix out of the water. In addition to their cocoa, they also have a generous selection of chocolates and truffles (which they do, in fact, sample). Their knowledgeable staff also informed me that the chocolates are shipped daily from Portland and aren’t stocked up in some refrigerator. With more than just boring chocolate bars and cups of black coffee, Moonstruck Chocolate Café is sure to please any sweet tooth with their copious supply of chocolate goodies.

Bombon Americano
Like something you would see straight out of the movies, Bombon Americano café and bakery defines that cute, cozy café around the corner. After relocating from the Pilsen neighborhood, Bombon Americano changed its image of traditional Mexican desserts to American desserts with Mexican undertones. Its picturesque corner location in Chicago’s Gold Coast makes it a popular attraction for locals, yet it never seems to be crowded. The warm-hearted staff is happy to help you choose any of their signature desserts and dishes. Once you walk in, you’ll be charmed by the eclectic Mexican décor and brightly painted tables and chairs. The pastry case is full of sweet treats such as blueberry tartlets, vanilla cupcakes and mini frosted cakes that are sure to sway you to buy one. Illy coffee and espresso drinks are also offered as well as gourmet salads and sandwiches with delectable ingredients like avocados, fresh raspberries and goat cheese. All entrees are served in unique basket trays brought right to your table. If you have a hard time spotting Bombon, look for their elaborate wedding cake display in the window. Custom cakes are also available as well as local delivery. Bombon Americano’s one-of-a-kind style sets it apart from all other cafes and bakeries in the area and will transform any Chicago visitor into a local.
