From the people who introduced us to Zac Posen, Gen Art plans a show for fashion week

While we’re all excited to see what the big name designers will show during New York’s Spring ’08 fashion week, let’s take a minute to look at some up and coming designers. Gen Art, the fabulous organization dedicated to assisting emerging artistic talent has put together a great show this week to introduce NYC to some new fashion designers. In the past, Gen Art has exhibited collections by Zac Posen, Chaiken, and Rebecca Taylor. This season, meet Bensoni, Dagmar, Delphyne Guiraud, Grace Sun, Mooka Kinney, and Whistle + Flute.

The design duo of Benjamin Channing Clybourn and Sonia Yoon behind Bensoni met while studying at Parsons, where they won the “Designer of the Year” award. The label is known for it’s feminine tops, skirts, and dresses. On the other side of the Atlantic, in Sweden, Dagmar, designed by three sisters, won “Best New Designer” at the Swedish Elle Awards for their jersey and knitwear items. Rachel Antonoff and Alison Lewis of Mooka Kinney are like sisters. They started off as roommates but soon became a design team when they discovered each other’s love of vintage clothing and childlike dresses. The designers have recently been featured in Nylon magazine.

The fashion show is tomorrow, September 5th, by which time many of these designers will probably be famous. And if they’re anything like Zac Posen, best friends with Shalom Harlow.
