Give Party Animal a Whole New Meaning - All Day Long
As promised, this week’s posts were devoted to the fabulous pets that help make your apartment a home. Instead of taking the dog in your life for a walk this week – take him out for a day and night on the town! New York City is full of pet friendly places so you can bring your dog along with you anywhere from the spa to the bar. Here are just a few:
Looking for a relaxing workout after a long day behind the desk? Visit East Yoga on 212 Avenue B at 13th St for yoga like you’ve never experienced. Their Doga classes ($20 each) are designed around you and your dog to give you both a workout. Utilizing modified yoga moves, it’s designed to help you bond with Spot while helping to calm him and aid circulation and digestion processes!
The Dashing Diva at 41 E. 8th Street is known for its great pedis, manis and other spa treatments from extensions to facials. Did you know that you can also bring your dog there? It might be easier than trying to get your boyfriend to come along to keep you company and join you in a spa treatment.
D.B.A. located at 41 First Avenue, boasts being the best whiskey, bourbon, tequila and beer bar in New York. If their mile long liquor and beer lists aren’t enough to keep you coming back, they are pet friendly and welcome your dogs! Pet-friendly night life gives “party animal” a whole new meaning.

Modern Furniture for Your Four-Legged Friends!
In the tiny lofts and cramped railroad apartments of New York, even a purse-size pooch can take over your space. You want your pets to live comfortably without surrendering your apartment to crazy cat lady status, so pump up your pet-friendly pad with some modern furniture.
Jax and Bones will hook you up for all of your canine needs from bowls to bedding. Check them out online for a huge selection of their signature dog beds. Top picks include their lounge beds ($89-$179) in different colors in corduroy or microvelvet that look like little couches and their custom bedding ($99-$199): pillows in square, rectangle and circle and in every fabric choice imaginable. No matter what your taste – zebra print or retro geometric shapes, Jax & Bones will add the perfect accent for your home.
While you’re on their website, add a Good Karma Rope Toy ($14-$16) to your shopping cart. The brightly colored toys are made from natural dyed cotton and a portion of each purchase is donated to www.therescuetrain.org to help homeless animals. Good karma and better than your average chewed up tennis ball!
To keep the cat in your life from leaving hair all over your laundry pile or lap, try this cat bed in the shape of a cat’s head! It looks modern and chic and will provide your feline friend with a comfy place to curl up (about $50.)

Turning the dog run into a cat walk!
Take it from me, as a dogsitter for the greater Washington Square area for the past couple years – it’s hard to look good picking up poop. But thanks to new lines from devoted doggie designers, there’s a breath of fresh air for such a dirty job.
Bowchies is a line perfect for just that promising, “a stylish day at the park!” Outfitting both you and your dogs, they strive to achieve a fashionable approach to function. For you, they have stylish messenger bags ($99) in a variety of fun fabrics. Bowchies hooks you up by including with their bags a collapsible bowl for water, cell phone holder, a water bottle holder and enough pockets to fit all of your necessities. If you’re out for a quick walk, try the Mini Bow Pouch ($15) that attaches to your dog’s leash and can hold keys, treats or a phone.
For your dogs, there are dozens of different colorful collars for every mood from preppy to playful for pooches big and small ($26-$28.)
Besides their expansive collections of doggie bling and graphic tees, modern pet accessory superstar 26 Bars and a Band grabs dogwalker chic by the reigns with their retractable leashes in leopard print, camouflage and pink plaid ($39.)

Casual Fridays for Fido
My weekend was devoted to the Park Avenue pooches and the Miami Beach bitches from across the country – all convening at Pet Fashion Week in New York City. Believe it or not, there’s more to the event than dogs trotting around in rhinestone collars and ornate costumes. Well…
There’s a lot the pet industry has to offer for a girl and her fabulous four-legged friend! This week, here are a few of the finest finds – for felines to Fidos!
You wouldn’t want to wear a sequined ball gown every day, so why parade your pup around in one? Especially when there are so many fun tees for all of Spot’s many moods!
One of this year’s stand out exhibitors was Bullyware, an NYC based company that outfits the chicest Chihuahuas and other smaller dogs in their space-age punk rock designs. Striped tees trimmed in silver make up the Urban Martian line while the Super’Fly shirts are cut like muscle tank tops and adorned with decorative solar panels.
And for the outspoken barkers in the dog run, there is the “Auntie” line including an Auntie-War and Auntie-Fur shirt with the phrase: “be it ever so hunted, there’s no coat like home.”
Check out their website for more unique designs for the urban dog.

Maxwell Dog
By: Kris Marvin Hughes
Dog lovers in Los Angeles flock to this adorably-quaint boutique pet store in the Valley. Located in a very fun shopping area of Studio City, Maxwell Dog carries quite possibly the cutest dog toys and accessories you could ever imagine. Just the other week I bought my dog a stuffed bagel. What an image watching my big goofy Golden Retriever running around with a stuffed bagel toy in her mouth. Aside from their extremely unique and fun toy collection, they have beds that look comfy and chic enough for a human to crawl into and a wide variety of collars and leads. They also stock racks and racks of dog clothes, loads of bowls and always have fresh treats on hand. They encourage you to bring in your best friend for a truly fun shopping experience. (Isn’t it most important that you dog gets to pick out his/her new toy) The staff are incredibly nice and very helpful. Despite the boutique ambience, this place is incredibly down-to-earth. No snobbery allowed! The prices can be a tad on the higher side, but it’s well-worth the few extra bucks to be able to buy such fun and unique things for your furry pal. Parking can be tricky, so I suggest using the lot behind Koo Koo Roo. It is a bit of a stroll down Ventura Boulevard, but you’ll be happy to dive in and out of the other shops on your way to Maxwell Dog.
