The Return of Fro-Yo

Remember back in the day, when you could find a frozen yogurt shop anywhere you went? Well the fashionable return of the 80’s has also marked the return of the frozen delight. Starting with Hollywood favorite Pinkberry, frozen yogurt “_____berry” shops have been popping up all over the Los Angeles area. But the original berry reigns supreme, expanding its dominion into Pasadena and even suburban Westlake Village, which is fitting because half of Hollywood inhabits the area. For those in the know, you’ve seen countless Hollywood hotties getting their sweet fix on with Pinkberry’s incredibly low calorie, non-fat, low sugar delight. Pinkberry is as tabloid worthy as its customers, according to Wikipedia, with accusations ranging from being a copycat to not yogurt enough to be called a frozen yogurt, some have even called the stores unsanitary, but I prefer not to believe this of a place that brings such joy. Serving up only two tangy flavors, plain and green tea, you can add whatever fruit toppings you want. Or try a smoothie or shaved ice plate. And this for this summer, check out lychee, a yummy Asian delight. You know if people are calling it “crackberry,” it must be good!

New Yorkers Dipping Into the Pinkberry Lifestyle

It’s rising to fame as a swirly goodness for healthy-dessert lovers, a fresh low-fat/no-fat/no sugar concoction of frozen yogurt and fruit to tantalize your tastebuds. The Pinkberry concept has taken off on the West Coast with smashing success, and now New Yorkers are joining in the trend of indulging (sans dessert guilt) at the newest Pinkberry on the block. While the Beverly Hills location enjoys plenty of sunshine ‘swirling daily,’ New York is counting down to its fifth location in the West Village. Right now, the lines reach out to the curb during rush hour at 32nd Street, Chelsea, Spring Street, and the Upper East Side locations.

But what’s the fascination with this frozen yogurt sensation? The Pinkberry menu aims to please both exotic and simple tastes with clever combinations of green tea and vanilla, swirled with healthfully tasty toppings of granola, raspberries, dark chocolate, or mangos. . . better yet, try them all. The shaved ice plate offers mixed fruit, mochi, sweetened condensed milk, topped off with a heap of pinkberry swirl. Pinkberry stores are an amiable place to join friends for dessert; pebble floors and modern furniture come together for one of the latest ‘concept’ dessert and ice cream cafes.
