Chic GREEN Grocery Bag

Recently, I've noticed that Chicago shoppers often bring their own bags to the super-market. Most health and organic food stores have been selling cloth bags for earth-conscious consumers for years, but the trend didn't seem to catch until now. Perhaps it's the surge in GREEN marketing that's sparked the appeal of re-usable bags. Whatever the reason, a recent trip to Whole Foods left me coveting a re-usable grocery bag of my own.

Admittedly, my desire stemmed from seeing multiple bags that sported eclectic patterns and textures. I spotted a woman in the produce isle with a leopard print bag and another amidst the canned goods with a bag that donned a baroque-looking pattern in black raised velvet. Who knew being environmentally conscious could be so chic? As far as I'm concerned, the positive effects using these bags has on the earth makes spending a few extra bucks on one very excusable.

When something good comes along we take advantage of it A high end handbag factory that had been in business, in the same location, for over 40 years closed their doors (13,000 sq ft!) when the owner of the building sold it. So goes the gentrification of Brooklyn, New York!

Everything was going to be thrown out. We were invited to take what we wanted the day before the factory closed for good. We found beautifully unique leather, linings and hardware that are perfect quality. We knew we could make something of what would have been trashed.

We created Flote Recycles by merchandising the recycled goods and hardware into our collection and they look fantastic!
No two items are exactly the same-the pattern in the textures varies as it is the nature of the goods. All items are first quality and individually handcrafted in NYC.

Flote has a cool collection of bags, pouches and clutch bags. My favorite is the Performer neoprene pouch. The come in great colors and have relective tape stripe. They have clips on the back so you can clip them on your hip, beach chair, tote bag, etc. I carry it all the time- when I walk the dog, run in the park, go to the beach and go skiing. I originally bought the black one and recently purchased 2 more when the new colors came out! My boyfriend carries the Track Bag- it is made of heavy canvas- real quality!- and has room for him to carry all of his gadgets- like his phone, keys, wallet and sunglasses. Not you typical manbag, this bag can be worn around the waist and over the shoulder- it is great for travel!
