Luxurious GREEN Fashion at Skinstinct

I'm all about eco-friendly lifestyle these days. However, I must admit that every now and again, I purchase a non-green product because it’s environmentally safe counter-part is exorbitantly priced. So, when Skinstinct--a green AND affordable boutique--opened mere steps from my flat, I was totally elated.

Skinstinct’s philosophy is all about softness. They craft their products to feel extraordinarily gentle and cozy on human skin. So, how do they do this and still maintain moderate prices and eco-friendly policy? The secret is bamboo!

Bamboo is described as nature’s cashmere, except it’s actually machine washable. What’s more, it grows softer with every wash. Plus, it’s hypoallergenic, antibacterial and 100% biodegradable. The antibacterial part is particularly noteworthy because it means you can wash the items less frequently.

In addition to clothing, Skinstinct sells bamboo towels and robes. You really won’t believe how impossibly soft this material is until you check it out yourself (I may never buy cashmere again…..well, at least not anytime soon) And with shirt prices beginning at $20, what do you have to lose?

Towards the back of the store, you will find a complete line of green skin-care products, all of which are 100% vegan and organic. The manager tells me that Skinstinct will also be introducing a line of detergent relatively soon. They’re still quite new, so their web-site isn’t fully running yet, but within the month you should be able to purchase anything you can find at the actual store online.

Saving the Planet and Looking Good Doing it

The world is in a sorry state due to greenhouse gas emissions. You know to recycle, reduce and reuse, but a girl can’t go around looking like a tree-hugging hippie, you gotta look chic at all times. So check out labels like Ecoist, (ecoist.com) which makes really cute purses and accessories out of repurposed paper and donates part of sales to environmental groups.

Ecologically sound clothing isn’t limited to hemp anymore either. A lot of designers are taking an interest in organic cotton, which is grown without harmful chemicals that not only cause health problems for handlers, but also air and water pollution. Other materials are also gaining poplar use, like soy and bamboo as well as luxurious silk for the diva in you. Check out http://www.shopregeneration.com

If your apartment or house is in need of a redecorating, check out furniture that is new to you, rather than fresh off the truck, like at antique stores and thrift shops. If you want to go new, make sure its made of sustainable materials, which minimize the impact of global warming during production. http://www.earthfriendlygoods.com

Beautify your body with Nature Girl products, made from fresh organically grown products on small farms that use alternative pest control methods to prevent harmful chemicals from being released into the air. Nature Girl donates a part of their profits to groups who work to save the planet. http://nature-girl.rich-hippie.com/

It’s hard work to save the planet, but shopping to save the planet is fun!
