Mod Lighting to Brighten Up Your Pad

When I found these light fixtures online, I fell in love with their cute design and mod style. I had to do a double take when I saw who made them: the two and only Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

I had long forgotten about their line of clothing (ahem, fashion and lifestyle collections,) once only available at Wal Mart until I came upon their home décor line after doing some research for my new apartment.

Whether you’re looking for a desk lamp, a floor lamp, a chandelier or a wall sconce, MK & A have what you’re looking for in their Create-A-Shade Collection of lighting. What is unique about this line is that you create what colors, style and patterns you want

The Look for Less: Vera Wang does Department Store Chic

Great news: another fabulous designer has gone mainstream!

Vera Wang’s deal with Kohl’s Department Stores has been in the works since 2005, and next month, finally, we’re going to reap the rewards. The Kohl’s line, called Simply Vera, will debut on September 9th, 2007. Rest assured that the line will feature all of Vera’s signature feminine touches: tulle, roses, and ruching.

This line makes designer style affordable; Vera Wang is the latest in a surge of celebrities/designers to launch their “couture” designs to the masses. Most famously known for her bridal designs, over the years Vera Wang has expanded into fragrance, jewelry, eyeware, and shoe collections.

From what I’ve seen, the Simply Vera line for Kohl's looks like it has some edge to it, which I totally dig. From the pictures the clothes seem completely feminine and a little whimsical. The fall collection will feature dark neutrals with purple tones (purple is hot this fall season) as well as gold and white accents.

Here are some more juicy tidbits about the line:
Available in sizes 2-10
Price range is $20-$200

Kohl’s is also launching a Simply Vera website through its own website (www.kohls.com), to show shoppers how to build outfits from separate pieces in the collection.

Accessories and home furnishings will also be available at affordable prices as part of the Simply Vera line. Be watching for the ads in magazines and on television that are debuting this week, and don’t miss the launch of the line on the 9th and happy shopping!

Jul 28 2007 - 10:30am
Jul 28 2007 - 3:00pm
US/Pacific

It’s rare and elusive, and once you find it actually exists, trust me, you don’t want to miss out. Two words, Ladies: sample sale.

Modern Economy is an exclusive sample sale that is only held a few times a year. It’s a design and lifestyle event that features the latest and greatest independent designers. Since I am so excited about this that I don’t even know where to begin, I’ve compiled a list of the top five reasons you absolutely have to attend this event.

The top 5 reasons to check out Modern Economy:
1) Modern is hot
2) Prices up to 70% off retail!
3) No entrance fee
4) Supports indie designers
5) Large parking lot (you know that’s a big deal in SF)

The event is being hosted at Fort Mason, and the goods are designers’ samples, overstock and post-season wares. More specifically, you’ll find things like bedding, ceramics, lighting, and more. If you check out the Modern Economy website, new designers are being added constantly. Just a few of the participating designers are: Rae Dunn, Relish at Home, Dwell, and Inhabit. The list goes on and on…plus, you’ll find items for baby and pets, too!

For more information visit www.modeconomy.com, and don’t miss this event – you’ll definitely regret it.

St Vincent De Paul's Thrift Store

The term vintage conjures up images of one-of-a-kind pieces. Pieces that anyone would envy. But where do us mortal find such finds? If you’re in LA and willing to go off the tried and true boutiques of Melrose and way over to the east side, there is a trove of treasures waiting for you to take home.

St Vincent De Paul Thrift Store in Lincoln Heights is a dream comes true for the vintage aficionado. In a totally random collection of warehouses built on old train tracks, you have to know to know how totally amazing this place is, and you will love Google maps even more once you arrive.

On finally entering this warehouse of vintage finds you will be greeted by TV sets that actually work! Even those big ole boxy kinds from the sixties that home-improvement shows make into curio shelves.

Past the TV’s, you will find furniture from every era of every style for every room in your house! But don’t let yourself get too waylaid by the oodles of tables, because you haven’t gotten to the most fashionable cubbyhole yet…. the clothing racks!

Racks of clothing, in good condition take up an entire wing of this glorious goldmine for the fashionably able. They also have tables and display cases full of jewelry and the accessories for those who want their vintage look to take place slowly.

Although the store has actually been around for a while, the treasure inside disappears quickly, and the word is the best finds are made during the week.

So check out the St Vincent’s and your closet and home will thank you!
