Georgie Designs

What were you doing at six or seven years old? Putting dresses on Barbie? Combing My Little Pony’s colorful mane? Robyn Klauer, of Georgie Designs, was painting faces on rocks she picked up along the seashore and selling them to neighbors. By twelve she was selling puff painted Tee shirts to her older sister’s friends for twenty bucks a pop.

In 1998, while living in San Diego, Robyn found a passion for the craft of beading. Perfecting her hobby through graduate school, marriage and working that nine to five, Robyn, like most of us, started a family. It was the desire to stay home with her baby girl, and her keen eye for design that led to the formulation of Georgie Designs.

Georgie Designs is not just another ‘stay at home mom’s’ kitchen table attempt to make money. Robyn’s designs are unique, exquisitely beautiful and fabulously crafted.

Made of only the finest materials, sterling silver, 14K gold fill, Swarovski pearls and semi-precious stones, the jewelry of Georgie Designs can stand up to any fine jewelry counter collection.

Not one to sit on her laurels, Robyn has announced the formation of yet another brilliant customer service program…Georgie Designs Ring of the Month Club. The program is set to launch October 4th, 2007. “I want to announce my new Ring of the Month Club,” Robyn stated. “(It is) a new and unique gift idea. I have searched Google and I can’t find another club like it!”

Autumn: A Season For Rock N Roll

Sep 8 2007 - 12:00am
Nov 30 2007 - 12:00am
America/Chicago

It’s something that I have noticed for years. Between September and November, bands come out in droves, touring the country and giving us all something to look forward to now that summer’s over.
Thankfully, I live in Chicago where most acts play for a night or two. There are so many musicians touring that I am having a hard time deciding who I have time to see!

Five and Diamond

If you've been combing the city for punked-out Western, comb no more. Gunslinger chic is yours. Few can pull off the aesthetic of frilled pantaloons with a tooled leather jacket, but even the retiring among us can appreciate the rockin' indie workmanship of the Mission's latest fashion outpost, Five and Diamond. With a Mad Max meets Spaghetti Western vibe, Five and Diamond is about as far from the Gap as you can get this side of the Mississippi. Phoebe Minona and Leighton Kelly's new storefront displays their deftly hand-crafted leather collection Wildcard and Tawapa, an eccentric jewelry line with a gothic edge. Snake rings, leather aviator hats, neo-Victorian jackets, lace-up cowboy shirts - this is the place for sideshow accessories to revive even your most geriatric denim (including the jean jacket that's been molding at the bottom of your closet since 1997). If a pair of capris with three sets of ruffles adorning the leg isn't quite your style, try one of the mini hoodies or a buttery soft holster bag for saloon flavor without the commitment of bloomers.

Minipop plays Cafe du Nord in San Francisco

Aug 29 2007 - 8:30pm
Aug 31 2007 - 11:30pm
US/Pacific

It’s your chance to catch local group Minipop live at Cafe du Nord in San Francisco Wednesday August 29 and at The Blank Club in San Jose on Friday, August 31. Currently touring to support their debut release A New Hope, Minipop’s blend of dreamy, soulful tunes and synth pop harmonies truly inspire. Band co-founder Matthew Swanson on guitar backs ethereal lead singer Tricia Kanne, with Lauren, Nick and Ross rounding out the fivesome.

Reminding me of old faves The Primitives, Minipop is also sometimes compared to Texas-based group Eisley, but have an original vibe all their own. Favorite tracks include Generator, Fingerprints and Like I Do, which is getting a ton of radio play. Listening to Minipop’s music makes me want to twirl around in a big full skirt on a sunny day just for the sheer joy of it. Floaty instrumentals and poetic lyrics touch the artist in you, whether driving in your car or daydreaming. Their music leaves you full of hope.

On tour all over the US in concert halls and music festivals, they’re poised to go off with a big bang. Go see Minipop and welcome them to the alt music scene.
