Derma Technique Spa
Step into this serene setting and let it all go. From the friendliest staff to massages that take you to another universe, Derma Technique Spa is the place to go when you are looking for a low key, relaxing experience.
Located in a shopping strip, Derma Technique appears to be your standard, run-of-the-mill spa, offering services such as facials, massages and manicures. But from the second you ring to book your appointment, you'll find something different. Efficient, pleasant receptionists walk you through every service they offer without being wordy or overzealous. Once you arrive for your appointment, a staff member walks you to a plush, living room-like setting where citrus water and the scent of gorgeous candles await. We tend to get there early just so we do have a chance to take in the delicious waiting room! Derma Technique ranks far above any other spa in the city, with both gracious faces and stellar techniques used in their services. Facials (and all skin treatments, for that matter) are concocted according to the client's skin type and issues, ensuring great results every time. A wide range of OPI nail polishes and a killer paraffin wax treatment make the manicures and pedicures here well worth the money and the effort of booking an appointment (no walk-ins).
Best of all? The waxing. Yes, that's right. While most women dread getting waxed ANYWHERE on their body, Derma Technique uses the finest hard wax imported from France. Even coarse hair is yanked in one even swipe with little to no irritation afterwards. From brows to legs to bikini zones, request hard wax and skip the worry of pain. You'll never look back!

Re:fresh Day Spa
I love this spa - except for one thing. It's in kind of a sketchy area. If you drive there, it's no big. But, as I am an urban city girl sans car, I don't particularly like the walk from my apartment to here. Everytime I make the 5-block trek, past a couple transvestite hookers, some random "sidewalk sales" and some weird-looking bars, I think, "I really need to change spas." And then I get into re:fresh, and put on my plush robe and sandals, sit in the sauna, drink my tea - oh yah, and have my treatment - i forget what a chore it was to get there.
I also haven't switched because eventhough I've looked around, I haven't found a place *quite* like it. Sure, it's the downtown area and there are plenty of options which I'm sure would be good. But I really like re:fresh. It doesn't double as a salon, so I feel like they're primary goal is my relaxation, and I don't have to clamor through people getting their hair cut. It's not a chain, so they do things their own way and do it very well, I might add! They have half-hour sessions which, when you're tight on time, and want a little rejuvination, is a must-have. (plus it's cheaper!) Most of the other spas I've checked into don't offer that.
Then, there are the actual treatments. You couldn't ask for better technicians or a better environment. No matter if you get the half hour, hour, or package treatment, you feel like a new person when you walk out. I like to get there 15 minutes to a half hour early just to enjoy the winding-down process! It's like my own little happy place.
So I guess these are the reasons I keep coming back for more.
