Tea at Tiffany's amidst Castles, Seabirds and Beaches

You might think, from the name, that Tea at Tiffany’s is nestled in the chic neighbourhood of Soho New York City. It may conjure images of Audrey Hepburn and Manhattan, but this new tearoom is on the main street in North Berwick, Scotland. It is full of Scottish character, starting with the extensive selection of teas. The café is nicely laid out in a Victorian townhouse with ample space between the round tables. It was almost full when we visited, which says something for its popularity; it was mid-afternoon on a Thursday.

This café is full of little quirks that add charm - a typewriter in the window, deep red walls and vintage china – which any devoted tea-drinker will tell you makes all the difference. I was even given a pink and green cup and saucer to match my jumper! The cakes are homemade – I tried a rich chocolate fudge cake and my friend had pancakes, both were accompanied with homemade vanilla ice cream. They were equal parts sin and pleasure!

Some sights in North Berwick are the nearby Tantallon Castle, the gorgeous expansive beaches and Bass Rock. Jutting from the sea, Bass Rock was once a prison and is now a wildlife reserve and home to thousands of seabirds, especially gannets.

Address:
This tearoom is so new it doesn't have an Internet presence yet. However, you can't miss it on the main street in Berwick by its large windows and distinctive decor.

Sugar and Milk, Black Contour

Sugar bowl and milk pitcher – two abstract birds that have landed on the table. Designer Pernille Vea has clearly gathered inspiration from nature for the new generation of the design company Menu's popular porcelain series, Black Contour. The milk pitcher holds a half-litre, and the sugar bowl conceals an accompanying sugar spoon that is held in place by the lid.
