A Feast to Remember

By Maria Nguyen

Sushi is nothing new, but when you’ve lived in Japan for years, it is news to find a Japanese restaurant in Toronto with sushi on par with the real stuff.

As soon as I moved back to Toronto last year, the hunt for authentic sushi was on. And after a year trying as many sushi joints as the wallet of a poor student would allow, I finally found it at Masa. Fish so fresh my eyes gleamed with tears of joy. And the best thing is: I can eat as much as I want.

For $15.99 you can feast on a smorgasbord of nigiri and maki rolls stuffed with everything from spicy salmon and sweet-tasting eel to creamy avocado. Throw in a few plates of dumplings, teppenyaki chicken, tempura shrimp and calamari, and an hour later you’re stuffed not unlike the 20 sushi rolls you’ve just consumed.

This sushi mecca is located next to the Comfort Inn on 15 Charles St. E., just off of Yonge and south of Bloor. Its modern lounge setting is trendy but unpretentious. It also boasts an entertaining teppenyaki show, but I’m too much of a sushi addict to try it yet.

And did I mention domestic beers are only $3.50?

Finding the store is easy. It's leaving you'll have trouble doing.

By Maria Nguyen

To say that Hennes & Mauritz, better known as H&M, are planning to take over the world is not an exaggeration.

This Swedish chain has quickly become the staple wardrobe of urban trendsters all over the world in recent years who seek that off-the-runway look at bargain prices. In three years, 29 stores mushroomed

This August its latest boutique joined Toronto’s trendiest shopping district on Queen St. W.

Shoppers are drawn to this unique brand because of its diversity, quirkiness and panache. It’s truly the first brand to successfully appeal to a wide range of styles, body shapes and ages. From snazzy tees to silhouette-perfect skinny jeans to elegant blazers, H&M offers the most comprehensive array of clothes to not only women but also men and children.

If you’re in the neighbourhood, don’t miss out. Visit 427-429 Queen Street West. There’s something in there for everybody. Guaranteed.

Timeless accessory brand goes downtown!

By Maria Nguyen

Whether you can afford it or not, every girl (at least secretly) wants a Coach bag. It's classic and stylish, and now its loyal shoppers no longer have to look far in Toronto for the famous brand.

This summer Coach opened a new shop on the third floor of Eaton Centre. Even from far away you can't miss its signature emblem. The latest season's Bleecker line, with its trendy oval buckles and shiny leather, sits temptingly by the shop window. You can't help but ogle. You want to touch it, strap it on your shoulder. You want to bring it home, so you step inside, just for a look. And $398 later, you can't live without your brand spanking new duffle. But it's Coach and it's going to last a while and it's going to go with every outfit, or so you convince yourself.

Personally I think Coach makes a great little accessory. It's got a wider variety of styles, is more affordable, and its designs are a lot more chic than the more expensive brands like Louis Vuitton. So girls, next time you're downtown shopping for a new bag, be sure to pay a visit. Just don't leave your old wallet at home!
